DIY: How to fix broken compact makeup

If you use any makeup that comes in a compact powder form, chances are that at one point or another you've dropped and shattered your powder, highlighter, eye shadow or whatever.

My favorite Bobbi Brown highlighter broke during my last trip to Lagos. I had carefully packed it in my makeup bag but that wasn't enough protection for it. Even though it was broken, it still gave a mean highlight. However, I didn't reach for it as much because it didn't like the way it looked.

I figured there had to be something I could do, so I looked online. I found an EASY solution. Here's how you can recreate it at home :)

What you'll need:

1. Broken compact makeup - powder, highlighter, get the drift

2. Paper towels

3. Toothpick

5. Alcohol - I used Vodka, i wonder if you could use wine 😏

A lot of compact makeup products already contain alcohol, so adding more to it shouldn't be a problem. I have extremely sensitive skin and luckily for me, this process did cause any reactions. If you feel like you might get irritated by this DIY process, please try the product on a small patch of skin before regular use.

STEP 1. Use a toothpick or a similar object to break the uneven pieces of powder down into a loose powder form.

STEP 2. Add enough alcohol to turn the powder to a thick paste. Be careful not to turn the powder to a runny consistency.

STEP 3. Use a paper towel or tissue to blot out the extra alcohol. Also use this opportunity to flatten the powder/make it one compact piece again!

Step 4. This is what my highlighter looks like after blotting the extra alcohol. I let it dry overnight in a cool place and it's as good as new!
