Valentine's Day For Long Distance Couples

As you all know by now, I’m in a LDR. It’s hard on a normal day when you can’t see your significant other and cuddle at will. Imagine how much harder it must be on Valentine’s day when social media and real life are flooded with all types of public displays of affection.

If you have to spend the day away from your partner, don’t worry! Not only will you survive but you can actually have a pretty amazing day.

Here are some ways you can enhance Valentine’s day when you’re in an LDR😌

  1. This isn’t going to be easy but who said Valentine’s day has to be on the 14th of February. Postpone it until the next time you're together and celebrate it then.

  1. Make it less about you and more about others. Focus on showing the important people in your life that you love them, instead of fixating on the fact that you're not with your bf/gf.

  1. Call your bf/gf yearly in the day and remind them of how much you love them. This could set the tone for the rest of their day and will help soften the blow of not being together.

  1. Put in extra effort to make them feel special. Go beyond the cliché flowers and chocolates unless that’s what they absolutely want. Send them something thoughtful like that makeup kit that’s been on their wishlist, or a customized item. Get creative. TIP send to their workplace if you can😜.

  1. Have dinner together. Yes, you read that right. Make provision to Skype or Facetime and have dinner together even though you’re in different places. Order your favorite food, grab a bottle of wine, turn on some music and light a candle. Enjoy a 21st century romantic dinner for two😏. If there’s a time difference, you might have to settle for having a meal together even if its not the same meal. I know it’s not ideal but stay positive.

  1. If you can afford it, surprise your partner by showing up unexpectedly ✈️ and I promise they’re not likely to forget it anytime soon.

You know what they say, distance makes the heart of fonder. So, if you’e in a LDR and are forced to spend this valentine’s day away from your partner use this opportunity to turn the focus from the physical to the emotional. Try any one or all of the suggestions above to have a lovely valentine’s day.
