One of the hardest things for me to do in the morning is decide what to wear to work. It’s been a while since I cleaned out my closet and there's currently no space to hang my 9-5 piece. So, I decided to order a standing clothing rack; that way I can plan ahead and have my work outfits easily accessible.

SideNOTE:: you can now shop my closet HERE

My options were:

1. Going to the market - out of the question due to lack of time and the hassle of parking in Wuse market

2. Shoprite or next cash and carry - these did not occur to me at the time...I literally just realized I could have done this instead

3. Online shopping - this option was at the forefront of my mind. I hadn't tried it before and I was excited to see how it would go.

I had one of these when I lived in NYC and it was really useful. There were multiple sellers offering the same product in the price range of N7k - N15k, I need up ordering one that was about N9K including shipping. I placed the order, I think it shipped out the next day and with 3 business days it was delivered from lagos to abuja. I paid cash on delivery.

Pros and Cons of Konga

  1. A lot of variety, different sellers offering same product at different pries (price discrimination)?

  2. The filtering system isn’t as effective as it is on amazon. so for example i found it really difficult to filter by key words and price (low to high) at the same time

  3. Straightforward tracking and shipping process

  4. I got a notification when order shipped and when it was at the distribution center in my city

  5. I took the initiative to contact the driver when I got his number, so idk how or when he would have done it, if I waited

The excitement I had when unboxing quickly turned to disappointment. Like I said earlier on, I ordered a double bar clothing rack (that’s what the picture was, same with the name and the description) but what I received was 2 different packs of single pole bars (see pictures).

The unboxing

I took a nap after work and woke up a couple of hours later to do some work. I took a break from working and by the time I opened the package it was already around 12:23AM. I saw that I had received the wrong item and I dont know what I was thinking but I picked up my phone and I called the vendor's number from the website at 12:30am in the morning!!

I don’t know what i was expecting, bu the actually picked up. He had definitely just woken up from sleep. I started with an apology for calling at the hour and i was shocked that he actually answered. Even though I had clearly woken him up, he was nice and he apologized for the mistake. He concluded by saying he’d get back to me in the morning with a solution.

It's funny because I was going to chuck it up to a bad online shopping experience but something just told me to call. Moral of this incomplete story is trust your instincts. Hopefully, we’re able to figure it out soon and i can solve my problems with getting dressed for work in the morning.

It was almost noon the next day and I had not heard form the vendor, so I called him, .. “sorry madam I was going to call but I’ve been so busy” … #storynumber1

I asked about how I can get the correct item he asked where I was and I said in abuja and he goes “ ahhh that’s far oh” #justmanageitlikethat

unless you will return it to Konga and they will give you a refund

“ you know madam i am even the one who is at a loss now because those two bars is more cost than the double bar, check is naw” #whydareyoubeupsetaboutmymistake

Okay, I'm not keen on all these excuses. "Do you have double bars, no madam we are out of stock" At this point it becomes clear than instead of this guy rejecting the order because he did not have the item, he decided to send whatever he wanted. This the of behavior is so indicative of how people act here in general, with lack of attention to detail and poor customer service. She it's not their fault, they don't have the best examples to follow.

NOTE: whenever you order something online in Nigera

  1. If there is a cash on delivery policy, take it

  2. Open it in front of the delivery person before accepting and paying for it

It’s really my fault because I forgot for a second where I was (Nigeria) and threw all precautions out the window.

2 single bars isn’t such a bad idea but I don’t have space for it in my room. I hope one bar does the job. In the meantime if you’re looking for a single bar standing cloth rack in abuja, hit me up.
