A few weeks back, I had dinner with Obi and some friends at Backyard Lagos. It's a relatively new (less than a year) spot in town, the food is great, there's a communal table type thing going on which reminded me of "Le pain quotidien" in America. I believe there's a bakery and more seating in the backyard as well. So here's what I can tell you about this new place
Do I need a reservation?
We went on a Saturday evening without a reservation and they didnt have a table for 4 so we sat at the communal table which probably seats like 10 - 12 people. I don't know how busy it gets during the week, but if you're going on the weekend, I'd call to book a table ahead of time. Celebrity watching ?
If you're into it, this could be a good place to catch the popular kids in town; I spotted Kunbi of April by Kunbi and Toke Makinwa at the restaurant at different times.
What we ordered:
1. Steak sandwich
2. Chicken burger
3. Chicken breast and Veggies
5. Fried calamari (starter) / (not pictured)
I remember that the calamari was nice; I was also very hungry which explains why there's not picture of it. The food took about 10 - 15 mins to come out which wasn't too bad. The best thing was the philly cheesesteak (which I realize is listed as "steak sandwich" on their menu), followed by the chicken burger (my order). There was nothing special about the lamb and it was a little dry; Same for the chicken breast. The mashed potatoes were YUMMYe though!
The bill came up to just over N30,000 which is an average of N7500 per person. The ambiance at backyard is nice and cozy and they have a very photogenic space. There's a graffiti wall outside, and the very famous swing everyone's using for their insta shots.
If you're looking for a cute place for a date or lunch with family over the weekend, definitely try Backyard.
