I love eating out and I'm lucky that my fiancé is always ready to try new places with me. Last time I was in Lagos, we drove past the Blowfish hotel on our way from the spa and we went in to explore. We were hungry and it was convenient that they had a restaurant in the lobby. We scanned the menu which has thai, india, chinese and I think continental dishes as well before deciding to order. So how was purple? One word. MEDIOCRE. The service . The food. The presentation; all were nothing to write home about. A serving of chicken tikka masala costs N5,000 and so did my Karphaw Kai chicken dish which really was just chunks of chicken in soy and garlic sauce with 3 slices of tomatoes and a piece of stale lettuce for decoration. All their meat and stir fry dishes are served on their own and the basic accompaniment of steamed rice is N2000. My excitement to taste the food quickly wore off after the first bite. The chicken sauce was pretty bland.. I don't cook a lot but I feel like I could do better.
The chicken also came in a flat plate which I wasn't too pleased about especially because the sauce had travelled along the edges of the plate from the kitchen to the table. It looked untidy. I'd never serve a guest in my house food like that, so I expect better from a restaurant. Obi enjoyed his chicken tikka massala meal but mentioned that Spice Route is definitely better. You want to know what wasn’t mediocre thought ? The prices. They were above average. It took them an extra 10 mins to find a takeaway pack when I asked for one. The naan (butter) which is apparently made in-house daily did not taste fresh. The good thing was that the food didn’t take too long to come out. Everything was served in about 10mins.
I don’t see myself going back to Purple anytime soon. The food is overpriced and the taste isn't wonderful. The presentation is lacking and the customer service is just there.
